The six essays collected in this volume represent steps along a single path,from the outset,my intention has been to understand the culture and society of the rotinese.to do this properly has required a study of the rotinese language in its various facets,a study of rotinese oral literature and a study of rotinese history, both as it is embodied in lokal tradtions an as it is recorded in writen historical archives.
