The Use of English Vocabulary in Media Coverage of Islamic Topics: A Corpus Study of Al- Jazeera News
This research analyzes how English vocabulary is used in media
reporting on Islamic topics through a corpus study of Al Jazeera news articles.
Employing a qualitative methodology grounded in corpus linguistics, the study
investigates patterns of word frequency and collocation in English news texts
covering issues related to Islam. The data comprises 29 articles published by
Al Jazeera from January to August 2025, processed using AntConc software.
Findings reveal that Al Jazeera employs an inclusive and neutral vocabulary
style, featuring prominent terms such as Muslim, Ramadan, Hajj, and Quran.
Critical social discrimination issues are highlighted through collocations like
anti-Muslim, while language associated with religious rituals reflects respect
for the cultural and spiritual dimensions of Islam. This study contributes
insights to media linguistics and vocabulary education, recommending
language training to enhance journalist competence toward fair and accurate
religious news coverage.
